North Staffs Juniors had a successful trip out to the Spring Head at Northwich. Three crews competed at U14 level against other crews from across the north-west over the 2350m course held on the River Weaver. In their WJ14 coxed quad event, the girls crew of Lizzie Binns, Tiffany Jenkinson, Chloe Heery and Molly Painter produced the first win for the club at this level. Recording a time of 11mins 48secs gave them victory over a strong crew from Chester. Katy Meakin coxed the boat for the first time and gave lusty encouragement all the way down the course. In the J14 doubles, Peter and Joseph Aston came second in their group with a very creditable time of 10:48. Candice Griffiths, rowing up an age group as an 'honorary' boy, paired up with Thomas Aston produced a spirited performance to record a time of 12:22. North Staffs RC is based at Rudyard Lake and works with local schools to develop rowing. The Junior Section was founded two years ago and now appears regularly at a competitive events across the north-west. The growing junior section now has 16 members who train Saturday mornings and Thursday evenings at Rudyard.
