Introduction to NSRC
We are a small rowing club based on Rudyard Lake, a picturesque reservoir just outside Leek. We have a wide range of rowing abilities in the club, from very novice to years of experience (although they might not like it pointing out!). Some members just come down to keep fit and enjoy the social side, some are interested in racing - you can see some of the reports from races in the news on the right hand side of the site. The club has a number of boats, catering for both sculling and sweep oar (rowing with 2 oars or 1 oar respectively). There are 2 fours, one (rather heavy!) quad, 2 doubles and a single all regularly used by the club, along with a number of virus training boats. There's always plenty of changing of crews on club day, and so ample opportunity to try something different! If you're interested in racing, crews meet up at other points of the week during the long evenings of the summer, and train together, preparing for both head and regatta races. The club has a casual, enjoyable atmosphere, and most people stop for a cup of tea at the cafe after training, and have a chat! Rudyard is a beautiful lake to row on, and there's nothing like it on a sunny day - although there's also nothing like it on a very windy day either! More about the lake can be found here If you want to come along we meet every Sunday at 10am at the Rudyard visitor's centre - for maps, go here. Please come and watch us, or sign up for one of our start rowing courses - see the news bar on the right of this page for the next one coming. For full membership information, visit this page. Experienced rowers are more than welcome to have a go on the day with us, for a £5 fee. We're very keen to recruit new members! A form for day rowing is available here if you want to get a headstart - don't worry though, we'll have some copies down at the clubhouse too! |
