North Staffordshire Rowing Club

CommitTee Meeting 3rd October 2004

Present Len Clowes, Dave Mellor, Dave Bruce, Jim McCabe, Alex Strickland

Apologies Graham Seweryn

BACKGROUND We have now got informal agreement on the strategic direction for rowing on the lake. Specifically: To manage the boat store area of the new “Activity Centre” Acting as a focus for all rowing activity on the lake To provide a business plan to Lake Ltd to demonstrate that NSRC can meet the - minimum required income to maintain the viability of the Centre building.

Len will be meeting Ray tomorrow evening to get a formal letter of understanding.

This meeting is to get committee sign off to the business plan, as well as an update on normal committee business.

Agenda Meeting with Ray Insurance Implications Business Plan Funding Priorities Notes Decisions Made “Mentions in Despatches” Previous Actions

Meeting with Ray We have a letter from Ray outlining the extent of tenure between NSRC and RL ltd This was reviewed The proposal is a tenure agreement 5 years (from1/10/04 ) It is clear on fixtures, utilities, insurance, monthly instalments.

We need to discuss and confirm further: Phasing of cost, given that we run a Sept – Sept year, as do the Uni, it was proposed that it may be easiest to move yearly figures back 1 year (as in effect we are only starting with 3 months of 2004) Storage vs RL Ltd & RL Friends etc Confirm area being rented, includes some facility manager time Water access rights – and right to charge rowing users Free access to premises & hard standing outside boathouse doors. Ask for a hasp and combination padlock arrangement Clarify terms for training camps to ensure there is an incentive for NSRC, Uni etc to attract these – but also that the lake benefits also.

Insurance Implications NRSC insurance covers boats and damage to 3rd parties by them RL Ltd need to insure the fabric of the building including doors Other boats stored need their own insurance so if they damage our members or equipment then we can claim on them. This applies to Private Scullers, Uni, Trentham, Etc.

NB Insurance is “boat” based and hence we need to get all our boats covered asap

Add Quad 500 , New Wave 500 , 4 sculling blades 2x300 8 wooden sweep oars 100 4 wooden sculling blades 50 Blue scull 150 Remove Carl Douglas 1500

Net increase to sum insured £400 - small premium increase likely

Business Plan We have agreement with Univ & Trentham running Sept to Sept We have agreement with Don as a private sculler. Membership subs are now in a good state. Taking forward a sensible boat buying plan and realistic membership funds – the club needs to find additional funding of 2-3k per annum to make progress. NB extra funding is to buy new boats – not club running costs!

Funding Priorities 2004 Club Funds Shoes for Quad (incl Ladies & “Bigfoot” juniors) Maintenance on New Wave Match funding Double scull & blades. (NB Will need to cover whole cost for 1 month)

  1. SRB5+ Lottery 4 + & blades Leek Sports Council Safety Equipment & Coaching course fees

NB Unable to offer to buy Lee’s scull at this time. Would not be interested in Mark/Daz’s Carl Douglas as a club boat.
