The Junior Section hits the water - and the next Start Rowing course is scheduled
PRESS RELEASE

North Staffs Rowing Club hit the jackpot recently with a win on the National Lottery funded Awards for All programme. The club was granted £9,222 to buy boats, equipment and train coaches to help set up a new junior section at the club’s base on Rudyard Lake.

Since earlier this year, coaches from the club have been working at St Edward’s Junior High in Leek developing an after-school club with 12 year-olds using indoor rowing machines. Last Wednesday saw the youngsters trying rowing out for real on the water at Rudyard using the new sculling trainers bought by the club.

Sue Langford, Head of PE at St Edward’s said, “this is a great opportunity for our students to learn a challenging new sport. They enjoy it, the club has been very helpful and Rudyard Lake is a marvellous setting”

With the Awards for All grant, North Staffs have also just qualified six new coaches who will be on hand to give expert tuition to the new junior section due to start in September . As well as starting the junior section with pupils from St Edward’s, the club also runs regular learn-to-row courses for adults. The next course starts on Wednesday 7th September at Rudyard Lake. Call Ruth Ford on 07966 133261 to book.

Experienced rowers, either competitive or recreational, are always in demand at North Staffs. Come to the boathouse at Rudyard Lake on Sundays at 10 am and be assured of a warm welcome.
